2. Difference between Normal GTAW Process and Non Purging Filler Wire for Stainless Steel Root Pass Welding. 

  • Purging in the welding industry is generally understood to mean the removal of air which contains
  • Oxygen and some other gases need to be removed to prevent them

from combining with the hot metal produced in welding.

  • Oxygen will form oxides which may lead to discoloration, porosity and contaminated
  • Hydrogen in the presence of titanium and some steels can cause embrittlement of the weld
  • Weld Purging is generally necessary for the first weld run when joining two separate parts. This sealing weld will be called a “root run”.

 

 

3. Disadvantage of weld Purge.

  • It can be costly and time-consuming to set up and maintain the

purge gas flow and equipment.

  • They are invariably single-use solutions.
  • It can affect the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance if the purge gas is not pure or
  • It can pose a risk of asphyxiation (Suffocation) or fire if the purge

gas leaks or accumulates in confined spaces.

  • Air contamination can cause insufficient fusion and penetration along with oxidized reverse surfaces of the root pass bead.

  • KOBELCO developed TGX Non Purging Filler Wire in
  • KOBELCO submitted new code registration for TGX to A5 committee in AWS (American Welding Society).
  • AWS approved and registered new classifications as “Stainless Steel Flux Cored Rods” in AWS 22 in 1995
