1. Which Metals Require Purging?
Stainless Steel, Duplex, Super Duplex, Cr-Mo steel, Reactive metals(Ti, Ni, Zr and their alloys)
Unpurged Weld Purged Weld
2. Difference between Normal GTAW Process and Non Purging Filler Wire for Stainless Steel Root Pass Welding.
- Purging in the welding industry is generally understood to mean the removal of air which contains
- Oxygen and some other gases need to be removed to prevent them
from combining with the hot metal produced in welding.
- Oxygen will form oxides which may lead to discoloration, porosity and contaminated
- Hydrogen in the presence of titanium and some steels can cause embrittlement of the weld
- Weld Purging is generally necessary for the first weld run when joining two separate parts. This sealing weld will be called a “root run”.
3. Disadvantage of weld Purge.
- It can be costly and time-consuming to set up and maintain the
purge gas flow and equipment.
- They are invariably single-use solutions.
- It can affect the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance if the purge gas is not pure or
- It can pose a risk of asphyxiation (Suffocation) or fire if the purge
gas leaks or accumulates in confined spaces.
- Air contamination can cause insufficient fusion and penetration along with oxidized reverse surfaces of the root pass bead.
- Inert gas feed connections can be of poor quality and lead to
4. What is Non Purging Filler Wire [TGX]
- TGX Series Non Purging Filler Wire for TIG welding, produce slag to protect the reverse side of the root pass from oxidation by the
- Saving the costs for back shielding gases and gas purging downtime including the setting time for gas purging
