Alloy 214 Structural Filler Wire, which consists of nickel, chromium, aluminum, and iron, provides the maximum resistance to oxidation at high temperatures. The alloy is primarily intended for use at temperatures exceeding 955 Degree C. At these high temperatures, it demonstrates a greater resistance to oxidation than nearly all conventional heat-resistant wrought alloys.
Preheat is usually not required as long as the base metal to be welded is above 32 ° F, and interweaving temperatures should generally be below. The key to preventing this problem is to minimize welding restraint through appropriate component design and to heat quickly through the 1100 to 1700 Degree F temperature range during the subsequent heat-treatment process. Preheating is usually not necessary as long as the base metal to be welded is above 32 ° F, and interpass temperatures normally should not be higher than 40 Degree F.
There is no doubt that this phenomenon occurs for exposures at temperatures above 1800 Degree F, where the formation of an alumina-rich security oxide layer is preferential. The results include exposures in a gas mixture of Argon, 20% oxygen, and 0.25% chlorine, where the metal loss from Haynes 214 Structural Filler Wire is nominal.
