Description
HAYNES® 282® alloy is substantially more wieldable than other alloys of comparable strength due to its great resistance to strain-age cracking. Gas tungsten arc and gas metal arc, GMAW or MIG, welding methods are favored, with 282 alloy bare filler wire used. If shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) of HAYNES® 282® alloy is required, please contact Haynes International's technical support division for information on the most appropriate coated electrode. Due to the high heat input and greater weld restraint associated with this procedure, submerged arc welding (SAW) of HAYNES® 282® alloy is not suggested.
It is advised that bare, matching-composition filler metal be used to attach HAYNES 282 Filler Wire to itself using either the GTAW or GMAW process. HAYNES® 282® alloy filler metal can also be utilized for dissimilar joining and/or repair welding of other nickel super alloys that are age-hard enable.
Before undergoing age-hardening treatment, HAYNES® 282® alloy should be welded in the solution-annealed state. Before welding, the joint surface and surrounding regions should be properly cleaned to show shiny, metallic surfaces. Remove any grease, oil, crayon markings, sulphur compounds, and other stuff.
